Red Star Raiders Season 2010-2011

Red Star Raiders Season 2010 - 2011

Red Star Raiders had an enjoyable start to the season by cruising through the early stages of the round robin competitions seeing off Silverdale C team 11-0 and also Handsworth Utd 6-0. The Raiders were then placed as a top division team based on their unbeaten record in the round robin competitions of which manager Gary Rolinson and the players were thrilled about. During the winter months The raiders continued to show good form by beating some tough opponents in Cresswell Wanderers, Hednesford Town Shire Oak, Pelsall Villa and drawing against division one favourites Silverdale 1-2. The Raiders went into the winter break in the 2nd placed position.

During the winter break the Raiders were determined to obtain the top sptot place in the division and secure the league title come what May. Unfortunately the second half of the season saw the Raiders lose a little consistency with results and therefore a change was made in the managerial position. Manager Gary Rolinson stepped down as 1st team coach and decided to concentrate on personal matters therefore ex- Pelsall Villa midlfielder Ray Day stepped in to manage the side until the end of the season and then decided in the summer months who the full time replacement would be.

The Raiders continued to play nice football and always looked like scoring in every match  however during the month of February came a huge for the Raiders losing out to 3rd division side Buscelholme in the cup quarter final seemed to dent the Raiders confidence and self belief. From the game until the end of the season, the Raiders looked a little unsteady at times despite still playing decent football. Now 3rd place in the 1st division, the Raiders were determined to get back the form from previously in the season and retain their top 2nd place if not the 1st placed spot. However, two defeat against Silverdale meant that the league title was too far to reach. The best the Raiders could hope for was a second place spot with Tipton town currently in their way to gaining it. Last game of the season saw Raiders draw 1-1 against Tipton Town which meant the Raiders had to settle for the 3rd place in the 1st Division instead.

The season was a rollercoaster  with up’s and down’s commented manager Ray Day “We gave it our best shot and came 3rd, that it nothing to be despondent about because we know that we are a good team and will build on this for next season”. “I am so proud of my players for reaching 3rd spot they have done brilliant for me since my reign as manager” said Ray Day.

The last few weeks of the calendar season saw them play back to back cup games which saw them get to the final against local rivals Pelsall Villa. The Raiders started brightly without getting the goal they so deserved. The game went to penalties of which Raiders won therefore Red Star Raiders had one of the three Silverware trophies up for grabs this season.....Celebrations were seen by all at Red Star Raiders on the Great Wyrley pitch with the players held as football gems in the eyes of all Red Star parents and club officials.

The end of the season saw Raiders win success in this cup competition but then most of all a holiday for all the parents and players alike in Burnham–on– sea of which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.....THE THING THAT REALLY MATTERS IN FOOTBALL, ENJOYMENT FOR ALL!!!!
