HOW DID WE GET HERE
06 Jun 2009

Around 10 young lads were first bought together as part of a summer training school held at Woodlands camp in Streetly.

Most of these names can still be found on our team sheets today but were originally enjoying Erdington Star's Saturday sessions amongst players of all ages. Oscar Askey, Thomas Johns, Adam Evans, Sonny Bird and Connor Ramsey were part of the original group that soon found themselves representing "Erdington Star Woodlands" in season 2005-06.
Steve Bird formed an u8's team that was to find its feet in Lichfield's second division.

The five seasons that have followed have seen our boys take five trophies!

Steve's team took the championship title at u9's and with more players joining us, Hugh Ramsey formed a second mini-soccer team known as the "Shadows". This new squad was soon inflicting more damage to their rivals by taking runners up spot in Hugh's first ever season as manager.

At u10 we expanded again! Now with three teams, we also moved along the Chester road to set up base at Forge Lane as Erdington Star FC.
We were back in the medals as our latest squad known as the "Comets" took runners up.

Our first season at 11-a-side saw us take the plunge alone. Ditching the blue and White hoops of Erdington our committee agreed to move the team to McKechnies, wear Red and call ourselves RED STAR AFC.
The changes were just as profitable as the new Red Star team gained promotion to Lichfields top flight.

At u12 level our club had seen a big in-take of players, so-much-so that Steve and Hugh were able to create their own 11-a-side squads.
While Steve just managed to keep his team in the top Division Hugh Ramsey's team were having a fantastic second half to the season going on an 11 game winning run finishing equal on points with the divisions top team only missing out on the title on goals.
This fantastic achievement and the awarding of a runners up trophy to our club meant yet again we were seeing silverwear at RED STAR AFC.

In 2010 yet more development has seen the club expand to 5 teams. The introduction of an u9's team known as the "Raiders" plus yet another 11-a-side squad in honour of sponsors Hexis and the inclusion of a Saturday team concludes the story thus far.
Time will tell where this will lead but we are happy to now see over 50 boys enjoying football with our club.
